Air Sealing & Testing Services
How Air Sealing Reduces Energy Costs
Air sealing minimizes airflow between the interior and exterior of a building, keeping heated or cooled air inside by sealing gaps and preventing escape. It’s similar to closing a window before using air conditioning—there’s no sense in conditioning air that will leak out.
By reducing airflow in your Texas home or business, air sealing improves energy efficiency, lowers energy costs, and saves you money. Contact Lone Star Insulation today for a free estimate on air sealing services!
Types of Air Sealing
-
Foam Insulation — Spray foam insulation combines air sealing and insulation in one step. With a single application, it seals air leaks while enhancing the R-value of the space.
-
Caulking — Caulking involves using a flexible synthetic material to seal stationary gaps smaller than 1/4 inch. It is often paired with fibreglass insulation for optimal results.
-
Weatherstripping — Weatherstripping employs materials like solid foam, felt, vinyl, or metal to seal gaps of varying sizes. Unlike caulking, it is ideal for movable components like doors and windows.
Air Sealing for Top Plates During Construction
In over 15 years of experience, we've learned that the top plate is an area of particular concern when it comes to insulation. If you are remodelling your home or building a new home, we recommend insulating top plates.
A top plate is also known as the upper wall plate or ceiling plate, and it isn't something that can be seen or accessed in a finished home. Top plates are horizontal boards that attach walls to the ceiling or attach the first floor to an upper floor. During construction, home builders will typically leave a small amount of space between the top plates and drywall to leave room for thermal expansion and contraction.
Unfortunately, this space is often never filled, and air is able to move freely. By sealing top plates, you can reduce air transfer from conditioned living space to unconditioned attic space. Call us today for your free estimate.
Home Inspections and Air Sealing
Your home may have visible leaks that are easy to identify during a visual inspection, but it’s also likely to have hidden gaps in its envelope. These less obvious air leaks are commonly found around light fixtures, plumbing stacks, soffit drops, basement box sills, and more.
By choosing the skilled air sealing contractors at Lone Star Insulation, you’ll receive a thorough and effective sealing solution. Since 2010, we have been delivering top-quality air-sealing services to homes and businesses throughout the region.
